Personallity:
Spencer Reid was born the only son to a paranoid schizophrenic who didn't want kids (why mess with perfection?) and a lawyer. He was born a boy genius, having an IQ of 187. He was always a very quiet child and since he never fit in with the children at school he'd return home every day after school to hear his mother (an ex-college professor) read to him literary works. His father left the family at an early age, claiming he couldn't put up with his wife's mental issue anymore.Illness:
Ever since Spencer was always attached to his mother, more than normal boys. He has some trauma due to getting beaten up at school regularly and avoided human contact as much as possible. He was absolutely horrid with women and never had a girlfriend in his life. He was always an awkward boy and graduated college, wanting to help others.
He was eager to help other people, being a kind but awkward person. Though he will always be nervous meeting new people, and has difficulty looking others in the eye. He sincerely wants to be able to eventually settle down and possibly have a family, but with his slight fear of women that may never happen.

Spencer Reid was born the only son to a paranoid schizophrenic who didn't want kids (why mess with perfection?) and a lawyer. He was born a boy genius, having an IQ of 187. As he grew up he significantly learned things far quicker than most children and gained most, if not all, of his knowledge by reading. His mother was terribly proud of his while his father, only wanted him to have a normal childhood. But unfortunately for little Spencer this "normality" would never happen.Likes&Dislikes:
His father left him when he was little, claiming he couldn't possibly handle the fact that his mother had a mental illness. From that day forward Reid was expected to take care for the house, as everyday from the time he woke up to the time he came home from school his mother was still lying in bed. Every attempt he tried to get her up never worked, opening the blinds, shaking her, she didn't budge.
She'd often console him being upset by then taking out a book and reading to him, in which he would submit and lay next to her to listen. While in school he often kept quiet since he was so young, but so smart, he had skipped several grades. He was often beaten up and picked on, one incident recording that he was stripped naked and tied to a goalpost as his peers laughed at him.
This is one of the significant periods in which Reid decided what he was going to do. From that point on he wanted to study the human brain and behavioral patterns, and try to help people like his mother. By the time he graduated high school at 12 he was determined to help others, though shyly. He entered college and suffered more abuse, though harsher this time since it now involved heavy drinking.
He used this to his advantage for a personal project, connecting the typical high school mind to the college mind and finding no huge differences in the two. He got his master's degree in psychology. Afterward he continued to live with his mom for a while, perusing other degrees in Philosophy, Chemistry, Mathematics and Engineering.
His thirst for knowledge led him to collect quite a large library, but he also continued to worry over his mother. she stopped taking her meds, from forgetfulness and irritation and he grew concerned with her well being. After deciding to leave the house he made the ultimate decision. When he was 18 he contacted a local psychiatric hospital and had his mother institutionalized for her own good.
What he fears the most is becoming schizophrenic since it is known to run through families by genetics, and he constantly keeps away from people for that reason. He traveled all the way across the country searching for the right place he wanted to live, and eventually found a job working as a Psychiatrist in Aldridge Resort. He is fairly new to the place and doesn't know much of what really goes on there.
